Race Card

The Elephant in the room, go ahead walk around it, you can build a wall around it;
We sure as hell don’t talk about it
They say they're questions unanswered, I say they're questions unasked
I say the struggles today are from the stress of the past
They think we’re angry, for our ancestors’ misery
We think they’re known offenders bound to repeat history
You can feel the hidden tension, see the animosity
But if we only knew, we’d see its just curiosity
We’re all victims of it, none will confess it
In ignorance we use the wrong ways to express it
Like "do you get sun burn?" Or "Can I touch your hair?"
I never seen people like you so what brought you here?
Or not say a word, keep your head down walk past me
Well that sends a pretty clear message if you ask me
Now we’re puffing up our chests, we've got anger in our eyes
Feeling inferior, so we feel the need to over compromise
They’re smarter ways, what leaves me equally disgusted
It becomes a card game when we try to discuss it
The forbidden race card, no never talk about
The elephant in the room well go on walk around it
They say there’s questions unanswered, I say there’s questions unasked
I say the struggles today are from the stress of the past
Tell me how we co-exist if you’re afraid to speak to me
I see you look away when you get within 6 feet of me
Do you know I’ve never stole, or my past education?
How could you? If we’ve never had a conversation
When will we cease to walk around it? Will we ever talk about it?
